Right Time Organizing Drive

UA Local 787 HVACR Workers of Ontario, the Union that represents 5,100 people working in the Heating, Ventilation, Air-Conditioning, and Refrigeration Trade is reaching out to organize your workplace.

In July of 2021 there was an information campaign by Local 787 to inform all Right Time employees of the organizing drive at Atlas Care in Oakville, and a vote that Right Time Group of Companies forced all their employees to be part of, to deprive the Atlas Care employees their right to join a Union.

The Union was not able to communicate all the details for everyone to make an educated decision, but ultimately the attempt by Right Time Group of Companies to use employees from Mersey, Limcan Certified, and Peel was unsuccessful, and May 2023 the Ontario Labour Relations Board ruled that Atlas Care’s HVAC employees were unionized.

Since the very first day we reached out to all Right Time employees, the Union has been receiving calls asking about the vote and if they could be included. Now is your opportunity to become part of Local 787 HVACR Workers of Ontario.

During the time of the vote, Right Time Group of Companies representative Rahim Shamji tried to convince the employees to vote against the Union and asked the employees to give the company a chance.

TODAY, Local 787 proudly represents the Atlas, Peel, Limcan, Mersey, Oosterveld, Home Aire Care, and Francis Home branches.

What has Right Time Group of Companies done for you?

UA Local 787 residential workers in Toronto received a 6% raise in 2022, and 3.5% raise in 2023 and will receive a 2.5% raise in 2024 (see GTA rate sheets)

How has the Right Time Group of Companies changed your benefits without your consent?

UA Local 787 GTA Residential Members maintained a superior benefit package that is managed by Local 787 members, not by the company and there is no deduction off your pay. (see benefits at a glance)

How is your Right Time Pension plan?

UA Local 787 GTA Residential members receive pension contributions without having to contribute first and is guaranteed.

What does Right Time do to train you?

UA Local 787 has been training its members for over 40 years and is able to assist you in passing your 313 D Certificate of Qualification and offer any other trade-related training such as G1, G2 and G3 gas courses.

What future do you have at Right Time?

You no longer work for that family-owned business, Right Time Group of Companies is owned by an investment firm, and as it goes with many investment companies, they grow the business quickly and sell the company for a huge profit. In time, if the company is sold where will that leave you?

In Ontario in the HVAC&R Trade if the Union can show that they have more than 55% of the workers have signed a card, working on a specific day the Union can apply for what is known as a card-based certification. This application if successful would see the company become Union for “Construction” and there would be no further vote. If the Union does not have more than 55% of the employees’ support the Ontario Labour Relations Board would order a vote.

At or about the same time due to the nature of the HVAC&R Trade, where there are employees that would be performing non-construction work such as routine maintenance, the Union can also apply for what is known as an Industrial Application that would cover Service and Maintenance. This application would require that the employees vote, and to be successful the Union would need a vote of more than 50% of the employees in favour of the Union for the Union to be able to represent the employees.

NOW IS THE TIME, SIGN A UNION CARD AND BE REPRESENTED BY A UNION THAT WILL MAKE SURE YOU ARE PAID A FARE WAGE, PENSION AND BENEFITS.

July 13,2021

Today, in an effort by the Union to reach out and provide information to the employees so they can make an Educated decision on the upcoming Union Vote the Union was served notice by the employer.

The Company is asking employees to make decisions without the proper information, as an employee you should ask yourself why will they only allow one side of the information, are they afraid that the employees will realize they are under appreciated, under paid and could have better benefits?
